The evolution of an artist shouldn’t be discouraged but encouraged. However in order for one to progress that means treading onto someone else’s territory. The ever-growing tension between designers and celebrity designers has now become an open secret. Designers who attended art college and have studied the art of designing are crying fowl over the celebrity designer that has little to no training in drawing, designing, pattern making or even knows how to sew. In fact in the pop culture world everyone’s territory is being invaded by a wannabe.
Designers do not like actors, singers, models, housewives or anybody else playing the role of a designer and making more money than they are doing it. Actors don’t like athletes, models, rappers, singers, housewives or politicians portraying themselves as legitimate actors and being successful at it. Directors don’t like actors directing, writers don’t like people who use ghostwriters, models do not like actresses pitching products and getting the money and exclusive modeling contracts and politicians do not like actors or ex-wrestlers becoming successful politicians. In order to build a modern day career, branding oneself is a vital component to becoming a success. When artists promote the designers clothes at red carpet events the designers are ecstatic however, when the artists starts competing with the designer it becomes a problem. Reality television has added fuel to the fire because there are many programs on television that cater to the wannabe designer’s fantasy.
Participate in the program and get one’s clothing line launched
and promoted. These types of reality programs are a hit with the
audience because many people feel they can design fashion just as
well as the designer or better. Designers are annoyed with the fake
designers and it is a billion dollar jungle they’re fighting over,
who’ll win.
