There are many wars being fought in the world of fashion and some have already been lost. With many fashion designers having passed away and some famous fashion houses out of business there’s a void in the world of fashion. The public’s taste is ever changing and with each new trend comes a new sense of fashion. Hip-Hop has emerged not only as a musical genre with staying power but a fashion culture to contend with. The problems that have permeated pop culture are still ever present problems. Racism in the modeling world where designers are refusing to utilize models of color is a growing problem. Reverse pay discrimination against male models is prevalent, female models make more money than their male counterparts. Issues with weight have become problems that have some dire consequences. A model used to be on average a size (4-10) and be considered the standard model.
The average model is a size (0-4) and quite a few models have a serious eating disorder or are using drugs to stay thin. The world of fashion is mimicking society with the many issues that need solving. The issues can be resolved if the problems aren’t ignored, yet so far the problems have been ignored and no one wants to be the maverick is stating the obvious. The fashion world is in trouble. As the world recovers from financial devastation and rebuilds the world of pop culture is left in limbo. Will the world of fashion survive in its current state of chaos? No. There will be a new generation of designers, rebels, artists, wannbes and even fashion traditionalists. They will launch clothing lines, fragrances, skincare, and haircare products some will succeed while others will complain about it. Hopefully the next generation won’t inherit old unresolved issues.
